Increase Claflin settled Sturgeon Bay in 1835, only nine years later after his son-in-law was confronted by local Indians, Increase moved his family further north to Fish Creek. Increase Claflin is recorded as the first settler, but by 1953 Asa Thorp owned a lot of the land around Fish Creek and began to build a pier where he would sell cord wood, harvested from his land, to Lake Michigan steamers.
Claflin Point is the site of the settler's cabin and is located within the 3700 acres Peninsula State Park. Those first settlers knew the beauty of Fish Creek and it still entrances visitors today.

Fish Creek is considered by some to the the Door County's artistic life. The country's oldest professional summer theater,Peninsula Players makes its home in Fish Creek as do the American Folklore Theatre, the Door Community Auditorium and the Peninsula Music Festival, the American Folklore Theatre; the Peninsula Art School and the Peninsula Arts Theater. Dozens of well-known artists and shows are enjoyed by residents and visitors alike every year.
Enjoy breakfast, lunch or dinner at a variety of cafes and restaurants and then stroll along Main street and take in the shops and galleries. If swimming and sunbathing are on your agenda head to the downtown beach. Toward evening walk to the marina to check out the boats moored there and saty for the red and gold sunset.
