Potawatomi State Park
Location: Three miles from the City of Sturgeon Bay
Facilities: Campsites, showers, reservable handicapped-accessible cabin
Recreation: Hiking, fishing, downhill skiing, cross-county skiing, snowmobile trails, observation tower, boat ramp and biking
The park is names for the Potawatomi Indians who roamed the land when Jean Nicolet recorded a visit to the area in 1634. The name means keeper of the fire.
More than 50 species of songbirds are known to nest in the park, and White-tailed deer, racoon, squirrel, opossum and chipmunks will be happy to help themselves to your food cache if left unprotected.
The park is on the eastern terminus of the Ice Age National Scenic Trail which begins at th observation tower.
